This change of the old Confederate cross was presumably received to keep away from perplexity with Savoy. The Flags was cherished in the Constitution of 1848, which as a result changed Switzerland from a free Confederation into a unitary government state. So all around did it get on that when the Constitution was changed in 1874 no further notice was made of a government Flags.
